Heading to Langtang

Just wanted to give a quick update on our whereabouts and plans so people know where we are. We're back in Kathmandu at the moment. Took a brutal 8-hour bus ride from Pokhara today. Tomorrow we face an even more brutal 9-hour bus ride to Dhunche/Syabresi - half of it on unpaved roads. Not psyched. These are the tougher days of travel; it is not all easy.

So we had a few days to relax and take care of errands after our first trek. Tomorrow we leave for the next one. We will be taking this next trek on our own, sans guide. We're confident it should be pretty straightforward. The area we are headed to is the Langtang Valley. It's a valley north of Kathmandu and only about 5 miles south of the Tibetan border. The people there are Tibetan in origin and ethnicity. There will be big peaks lining the valley - some over 7000 meters. We'll be pretty close to Shishapangma, an 8000 meter peak in China/Tibet but won't be able to see it. We may get a chance to scramble up a 'small Himalayan peak' if weather and conditions are OK. That will be a thrill if it happens but no big deal if it doesn't. We should be back in about 10-12 days before we fly to Malaysia on Dec 12th.

Take care and please give us a shout if you're reading this.

Drew

Hey Drew & Erin,
Wow sounds like your trip is getting more exciting each day and you're learning a lot which is so inspiring. Your thoughts have definitely made me think about living more simply, less waste, less stuff, esp. with Christmas coming up. Less is more sometimes.
On a less serious note- Drew, Festivus is coming up soon (Dec. 15th), we'll be sure to get the shaving cream out in your honor.
Take care,
Love, Janine

HI Drew and Erin,
You guys are great! What a trip so far and so much more to go. Things in Boulder are good, nothing new. So far no snow to speak of. Boland says hello and to stay safe.

Have fun!

Thanks for the stories and the photos. It's generous of you to share your adventures and lessons learned with us. It seems that you are living life condensed... so much experienced in such a short time period already.

Erin- I want to make eBooks when I travel. Please do send links of yours as you go so I can get some ideas. This is a beautiful thing you are doing.

Love,
Kristin

Hi, D&E,
Yes, you both are so inspiring. I am intrigued that you were able to make eBooks so easily it seems. I guess I am taken aback by how quickly you both get to know the people and area you are visiting and are not afraid to do so. I applaud you.
I have shared your blog with the teacher who is taking my place this year in hopes he will share it with the class (on the SmartBoard) so the students can see the magnificent places and people you have seen which they will probably never otherwise see.
May God continue to bless you!
Love,
Kel, Kurt, and Mr. B
P.S. Mr. B got one of his top front teeth today. Now, he can take that off his Christmas list!
